New York City Marshal

What is a Marshal?

New York City Marshals are officers of the Civil Court and are authorized to enforce orders from the Landlord/Tenant, Small Claims, Civil and Supreme Courts.  The Marshal’s  responsibilities include, among other things, collecting money judgments on behalf of creditors and carrying out evictions and legal possession proceedings. The Marshal collects fees, which are set by statute, and retains a small percent of the judgment amount (called poundage). The fees and poundage are added to the judgment amount and ultimately paid by the debtor.
